Cost – £19.50 (September 2023)
Parking and Access – There is a carpark at the front of the hotel, close to the entrance. Access is level into the building.
A toilet was available inside the building, with level access from the inside. It is also accessible from the outside patio.
Background – We were meeting up with another couple in the Hunstanton area, and decided to look for an Afternoon Tea in the area. We have already had a few Teas in the area, but wanted to try somewhere we had not visited before. We found the Caley Hall Hotel, which looked like it would be a good place to go, in the village of Old Hunstanton, which is a quieter, much older village next to Hunstanton.
Contents per person – Four finger sandwiches (ham and mustard, cucumber with cream cheese, cheese and pickle and smoked salmon with cucumber), a thin slice of sausage roll and a pesto pinwheel. A medium sized fruit scone and a dish of strawberry jam and a dish of clotted cream. A small glass of raspberry crumble, a small square of chocolate delice, a small square of cheesecake, a coconut chocolate truffle, a mini jelly cube and a mini meringue. Unlimited pots of tea or coffee.
Options Available – There is also a gluten free Afternoon Tea available.
Comments – We had a reserved table in the bar are of the hotel. However, it was a lovely day, so we asked if we could move to the outside courtyard area instead.

We chose a large wooden table under an umbrella for shade. It was quickly laid with square white plates, topped with a white linen napkin containing a knife and a spoon.

We were asked what drinks we would like. Three of us chose tea, the other chose a cup of coffee. We also asked for a jug of cold water for the table, and I had a glass of cola as an extra.

The cola and water arrived first,

followed by the hot drinks. The tea was delivered in large green teapot, accompanied by a stoneware jug of milk. We were also given matching stoneware cups and saucers.

The pot of tea was a good strength. We were offered unlimited refills of both the tea and the coffee. The tea was made using teabags.
The Afternoon Tea itself was served on a three-tier cake stand with round white plates with a pretty gold edge.

The sweet section of the Tea was served on a slate.

The sandwiches were made on a mix of brown and white bread. They were all well filled, and freshly made. Sharp eyed readers will spot that we forgot to ask for the ham sandwiches to come without mustard. Luckily, it was a mustard mayonnaise, which was very mild.

Both the pesto pinwheel and the slice of sausage roll were very tasty. We would have liked a bigger slice of the sausage roll, in particular.

The scones were a medium size and had been warmed up. They were accompanied by small dishes of strawberry jam and clotted cream. There was enough of both jam and cream.

The cakes were nicely presented on a slab of slate. None were very big, but we found that they were plenty big enough, as we were quite full by this time! The only sweet that didn’t go down very well, was the chocolate and coconut truffle. Two of our party did not like coconut, whilst the other two found the truffle to be extremely rich and oddly dry.

Service was good, we were visited and checked on, and offered more hot drinks. The staff were very friendly.
