Cost – £21.50 per person (Nov 2023)
Parking and Access – There is some parking available right outside the tearoom, except on Tuesdays, which is market day.
There is one small step up to enter the room. The toilet has level access.
Background – We booked this Afternoon Tea to break the journey home from Usk (see previous review). Our route passed through the Cotswolds area, so we decided to find a Tea in that area.
We chose Rixy’s from a list of a few in the area. It just sounded like the sort of Tearoom we wanted to visit. Small and independent.

Contents per person – Four finger sandwiches (smoked salmon with cream cheese and cucumber, egg mayonnaise, ham and tomato (usually with mustard), cheese and chutney), a small vegetable samosa, a slice of sausage roll and a mini quiche. Two medium sized scones (one cheese, one fruit), some butter, a small dish of strawberry jam and a small dish of clotted cream. A small slice of Bakewell tart, a finger of lemon drizzle cake, a tiny coffee and walnut cake and a small square of chocolate brownie. One drink of your choice from the menu.
Options Available – There are no options for this Afternoon Tea.
Comments – We were able to park almost outside the door of this little tearoom in the centre of Moreton in Marsh.
When we arrived, we were shown to a table that had been reserved for us in the busy tearoom.

The table was laid with a large round beige pottery plate, a coloured glass each, a carafe of cold water, a coloured paper napkin, a knife and fork, plus a cake fork.
We were both asked to choose a drink. I chose a sparkling raspberry lemonade. My companion chose tea.

My raspberry lemonade arrived in a can, along with another glass. The tea arrived in an individual sized teapot, along with a small jug of milk.
The Afternoon Tea was served on a three-tier spindle type cake stand with round wooden plates.

The savoury course was particularly good. The sandwiches were all very tasty and were well filled. The quiche, sausage roll and samosa were all warm and delicious. To top it off, we had a lovely fresh cheese scone each. This was also warm, and there was butter to go with it.
All of the savouries were good, but I particularly enjoyed the warm cheese scone with melting butter on it – yummy!

We followed the savouries with the second scone. This one was a fruit scone, with the usual strawberry jam and clotted cream. Again, this was warm. It was also fresh and light.
The jam was a little runny, but there was enough of it. There was also enough clotted cream for the fruit scone. In fact, we even had a bit left over to put on the chocolate brownie!

Finally, we came to the cakes. None of these were particularly big, but they weren’t tiny, either. Though the coffee and walnut cake was pretty small.
I particularly enjoyed the piece of Bakewell tart, which is one of my favourites, and the incredibly delicious, rich, gooey chocolate brownie.

The café was quite busy the whole time we were there. The waitress was helpful and visible, if you needed anything. We didn’t ask for any refills on this occasion.
We very much enjoyed this Afternoon Tea, and everything about it. It is definitely worth a try if you are in the area.
