The toilets are accessible from the Tea Room on the level.

Background – My sister and her partner love to look at, what I, teasingly, call, piles of old stones. Binham priory is a particular favourite for them. A few years ago, they discovered a new Tea Room had been opened next to the Priory grounds, in an old barn building. They investigated, enjoyed the food, and noticed there was an Afternoon Tea available as well. It has been waiting on my list, for an appropriate opportunity, ever since.

Contents per person – Four square sandwiches (two prawn sandwiches, one cheese and tomato, and one cheese and ham). A large sized fruit scone, a small pat of butter, a small pot of strawberry jam and a small pot of clotted cream. A slice of Victoria sponge and a square of chocolate brownie. A pot of tea or coffee.

Options Available – There are no options available for this Afternoon Tea.

Comments – The converted barn is a lovely, airy building, with high ceilings and lots of features remaining from its original use. The tables are well spaced out, so you certainly don’t feel crowded at all.

The table was laid simply, with a paper napkin each, topped with a knife and fork.

The tea arrived first, in rustic looking pottery teapots, and matching milk jug. The cups and saucers also matched.

The tea was a good strength, and was nice and hot. The teapot was replenished when we wanted it to be.

The Afternoon Tea itself was served on a two-tier cake stand with round wooden platters. The jam, cream and butter dishes were separate from the cake stand.

The sandwiches were made on a mix of brown and white bread. They were well filled and freshly made.

The scone was a large size and had been warmed up. It was particularly tasty. One of the best scones we have eaten lately. It had a good amount of fruit inside.

They were accompanied by small dishes of butter, strawberry jam and clotted cream. There was just about enough of both the strawberry jam, and clotted cream. We didn’t use the butter.

The cakes were quite small, but were very tasty. The chocolate brownie was particularly good. Rich and sticky!

Service was good, we were asked if we needed more tea by the staff. And there was always staff around to ask for anything we needed. We were not rushed at all, and enjoyed the barn building. Especially the light fittings made from milking equipment!
