Cost – 43 Euro per person (April 2024)
Parking and Access – I’m afraid, I have no idea of parking in the area. There is no parking outside the venue. The best I can do, is to report that it was a relatively easy walk from the Altona Cruise Port, to the tearoom. It did, however, involve some steep sections.
There are three steps to enter the Tea Room. However, the toilet facilities are on the flat, once you are inside.

Background – We were off cruising again! This time we were visiting Hamburg, in Germany. I thought it was unlikely that we would find an Afternoon Tea in Germany, but I thought I would try a Google search, all the same. Up Popped the Eaton Place Tea Room! The place looked so incredibly quirky, that we just had to book!
The website was covered in Union Flags, and pictures of Queen Elizabeth 2, and King Charles 3. This was definitely a place to investigate. The booking form defeated me at first, but then I found another way in, via the description of the Afternoon Tea. A reply arrived quickly, and we were booked!
Contents per person – Three finger sandwiches each (smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise and cucumber). Two medium/small scones (choose from fruit or plain. I chose two fruit, my companion chose one fruit, one plain), a small bowl of jam (choose from four flavours. We both chose raspberry and rhubarb), and a small bowl of clotted cream. A mango cheesecake, a tiny, fruit flavoured macaroon, and a strawberry chocolate cup. As many pots of tea as you want, from about thirty different types!
Options Available – There were no options available for this Afternoon Tea.
Comments – On arrival at Eaton Place, we were greeted by large Union Flags, celebrating King Charles 3’s Coronation. And, more bizarrely, a lifesize, cardboard cutout of the King!!

In fact, even the toilets were labeled with silhouettes of Queen Elizabeth the Second, and King Charles the Third!

On entering, we were shown to a small round table, covered with a white linen tablecloth, a teacup and saucer in white, with a blue pattern around the edge, a linen napkin, and a cake fork and butter knife. There was also a little vase, with a small Union Flag in it!

We were given a large menu each, and were asked to choose what we would like to drink. We were told that we could have as much tea as we liked, in as many types as we wanted. There were around thirty types of tea on the list. Unfortunately, the descriptions were all in German!
It was suggested that we start with the Jubilee tea. It was supposed to contain all of the things Queen Elizabeth the second liked best. Unfortunately, it tasted to us as though they had just chucked in everything, whether it should be in a tea or not! It also had a bit of an overpowering taste of roses. We didn’t like it at all!

The tea arrived in a large pot. The teapots were very decorative and made from china. It was accompanied by a small metal jug of milk. We were given a new pot with every different tea.

We moved on to a fruit tea, thinking that might be safer, and be nicer without milk. We chose Yorkshire Fruit (the teas all had English names!), which was flavoured with strawberry, currant and rosehip. We really enjoyed this tea. And ended up buying a packet to take home with us.
The fruit tea seemed to take a long time to arrive. When we queried it, thinking they had forgotten us, we were told that the tea wasn’t ready yet. It had to be brewed to the exactly correct length of time!! They were using separate individual timers for each pot of tea they made!
We also each had a cold drink from the menu. We chose an Eaton Place fizzy drink. I chose cranberry, whilst my companion chose rhubarb. Both were really tasty and very refreshing on a hot day.

The tea stand arrived quite quickly. It was a three-tier stand, with different coloured, round plates on each level.

The sandwiches were very much as we would expect in the UK. We had three finger sandwiches each. All were freshly made, very well-filled and delicious.

The scones were a medium/small size, and were warmed up. The lady told us they were homemade. They were really very good, very tasty.

There was plenty of the jam for the four scones between us. However, there was not enough clotted cream. Luckily, the lady who brought the tea stand had told us to ask for more if we needed it. So we did. We were given another glass pot full, with more in it than the original pot had. Perfect!

We had three cakes each on the top layer of the cake stand. All of which were freshly made and very good. The macaroon was very small, but was good. The centre was fruit flavoured. The mango cheesecake was also very nice.

However, the best was the chocolate cup filled with a raspberry filling. That was very yummy!

The service was very friendly and helpful. Both people who served us spoke excellent English, which was just as well, as my German is extremely limited! Though the lady owner did ask me the English word for the cake stand.
