Cost – 24.95 Euro per person (May 2024)
Parking and Access – There is some parking available nearby, but most of it is on meters. There are several other ways to reach the museum, that are mentioned on their website, including by boat. We chose to use the Delft City Shuttle, which we picked up from the market square.
Access to the restaurant was via some steps. These also had to be negotiated to reach the toilets, which is in the museum, rather than the restaurant.
Background – Our cruise was visiting Rotterdam, which we have visited several times before. So, we decided to visit Delft instead. It was an easy, short train ride from Rotterdam central station to reach Delft.
A couple of friends had mentioned that they had had an Afternoon Tea in Delft, when we mentioned we were going to visit the town. Obviously, we had to try it too!
Delft is a lovely town, based around canals. It is, very much, a mini Amsterdam. It is famous for creating the pretty blue and white pottery seen everywhere in the Netherlands. One of the original factories for Royal Delft, is where we went for our Tea.

Contents per person – Two triangular sandwiches (egg mayonnaise with sundried tomato and Brie, honey and walnut), A small cup of tomato soup accompanied by a cheese straw, a mini quiche, a cheesy savoury, and a vegetable snack that was surrounded by deep fried noodles. A small plain scone, a small dish of strawberry jam and a small dish of clotted cream. A macaroon, a square of chocolate cake, a tiny biscuit topped with marzipan, a chocolate tulip, plus one of either a creamy chocolate thing or a creamy passion fruit thing. A pot of tea.
Options Available – There are no options for this Afternoon Tea.
Comments – We arrived at the museum a little early. Luckily, we were allowed to go in and start our Tea.
We were shown to a table in a line of around five, overlooking the attractive garden. All of these tables were reserved for Afternoon Tea.

The table was laid with a blue table runner across it. We each had round blue and white Royal Delft plates, cups and saucers.

There was a linen napkin and a knife and fork. There was also a dish containing different teabags. We also had a Delft “Proud Mary” figurine on the table. Finally, there was a small rack with a candle under it, to keep the teapot warm.

We were first brought out a pretty Delft teapot containing hot water. The candle on the warmer rack was lit, and the teapot placed on the rack. Unfortunately, our candle kept blowing out. We were expected to choose a teabag from the selection on the table for our tea.

Following the teapot, we were each given a small teacup full of tomato soup, with a cheese straw balanced across the top. The soup was warm and very enjoyable.

The rest of the Afternoon Tea was then brought out, served on a three-tier cake stand with round blue and white Delft plates.

This was accompanied by two small dishes containing the jam and cream.

The savoury part of the Afternoon Tea was delicious. The sandwiches were interesting, and a bit different.

However, the three savoury snacks were particularly good. My favourite was the vegetables surrounded by noodles, on a stick! The three snacks were all warm.

The scones were small and square. They had been warmed up. However, they had been overcooked at some point, and were rather hard! These were definitely stones not scones!

Despite the small size of the scones, there was still not enough jam or cream for them. We didn’t ask for any extra.

The cakes were all on the small side. There was, sort of, the same for each of us, but they were different versions. In particular, the creamy dessert thing. One of these was chocolate flavour, the other was passion fruit flavoured!

We particularly enjoyed the chocolate tulips.

Service was ok. We had to have our candle re-lit several times. We also had our teapot refilled with hot water.
