Background – This hotel is another of our favourites for when we are in the Southampton area. It is easily accessible by road and has its own, sometimes tricky, parking. The hotel also has a spa area with a pleasant, but small, pool.
Afternoon teas are served in the bar area or on the terrace. Pre-booking is required.
Contents – 4 finger sandwiches (smoked salmon and cream cheese, ham, tomato and mustard, cucumber and egg mayonnaise), a fruit scone, a small pot of strawberry jam, an ice-cream scoop of clotted cream, a chocolate éclair, a strawberry cream puff, a Bakewell tart and a mini toffee cake. The tea was bags in a teapot and was refillable.
Comments – We were lucky enough to be served on the outside terrace in the May sunshine. The afternoon tea was served on three tier cake stands with square white plates. The jam and cream came on a separate plate..
The sandwiches were pinned together in twos with a cocktail stick. They were well filled and fresh.
The cakes were delicious. The strawberry cream puff in particular was very light and tasty. There was a good variety of cakes and each item was of a decent size. All were nice and fresh.
The scone was of decent size and there was plenty of clotted cream.
The jam pots were a little small for the size of the scone.
The teapot was refilled on request. A good afternoon tea.
