Cost = £20? (uncertain as we obtained a discount on this occasion) (June 2014)
Background – We were lucky enough to be invited to stay at the Woburn Center Parcs during one of their trial weekends before the site was officially opened. We were given a discount on everything we did, including taking afternoon tea. We had a really good weekend trying things out on the site!
The Woburn Center Parcs is set in a relatively small site. There are quite steep hills on either side with the villas on. At the bottom, separated into two areas, are the main buildings. There are several different places to eat, one of which is the Shearings restaurant which is upstairs at the sports hall site. Your afternoon tea can be served inside the restaurant or outside on a balcony
overlooking the centre of the site.
Contents – 6 finger sandwiches (smoked salmon and cream cheese, ham, egg and cress), a fruit scone, a small pot of strawberry jam, clotted cream, 2 small macaroons, fruit tartlet, a small piece of Victoria sandwich, a Viennese whirl and a Viennese finger, and a small round biscuit pastry bite. The tea was made with bags in a teapot and was refillable.
Comments – As it was a nice sunny day we were served on the outside terrace on the balcony. The table was laid with a plastic floral tablecloth.
The tea was served on three tier cake stands with mismatched pink and blue patterned china plates. The tea service was also mismatched (shabby chic?) pink and blue patterns. The milk was in a white cow shaped jug!
The sandwiches were all well filled and nice and fresh. We had requested our ham sandwiches to be without mustard and this is what we were given.
The scone was a good size for the tea and tasted fresh. One member of our party requested butter instead of cream and this was provided. There was not really enough jam for the scone but there was just about enough clotted cream.
There was a good selection of different cakes and pastries. They were all small but as there were several different items there was plenty to eat. They were all delicious.
The tea was rather strong as usual but was refilled on request. We also requested and received extra milk.
