Cost – £20.00 (Dec 2015)

Background – We had visited the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Cambridge previously during the summer months. This time we were returning to try their Festive Afternoon Tea.

When ordering we had to specify the Festive Afternoon Tea as it was assumed we wanted the normal afternoon tea.

Contents – 5 triangle sandwiches (ham, turkey and cranberry, cucumber, egg mayonnaise, smoked salmon and cream cheese). 1 fruit scone and a small bowl each of strawberry jam and of clotted cream. A piece of iced Christmas cake, a tiny gingerbread man, a piece of chocolate brownie, a mini Victoria sponge and a very mini chocolate mousse topped with a raspberry. Tea was made with teabags.

Comments – We were sat in the lounge area which was quite busy and noisy. The tables were low with comfortable chairs around.

We were first brought out a white china teapot and a jug of milk. The Tea then arrived on a three tier cake stand with round white plates.

The sandwiches were mixed, some on white bread and some on brown. They were fresh and tasty and generally well filled.

The scones were of average size and were warm, fresh and well cooked. There was not enough of either the strawberry jam or clotted cream.

The cakes were on the small side but delicious and fresh. The cakes were decorated with chocolate holly leaves and redcurrants which made them look particularly festive. The gingerbread man was tiny and very crisp – a little overcooked. The mini dessert was nice but extremely small!

There was a limited choice of teas to choose from. The tea was of good strength. There was plenty enough for two cups each. We were not offered a refill on this occasion.
