Background – We were spending a weekend in Sheringham so I decided to look up on the internet to see if I could find any local venues serving Afternoon Teas. I found a few possibilities, one of which was The Sitting Room. We decided to try it and rang to make a booking.
The Sitting Room is a small café not far from the centre of the town at the end that is away from the sea. It also houses a small art gallery. The café also offers breakfasts including an unlimited toast breakfast with a toaster on your table!
Contents – Six finger sandwiches each (two each of egg mayonnaise, smoked salmon with cream cheese and ham, cream cheese and cucumber). One medium/large sized fruit scone, a pot of strawberry jam and of blackcurrant curd plus a pot of clotted cream. Two small cupcakes (one chocolate chip with a coffee topping, one plain with raspberry pieces and a lemon topping) plus two assorted macaroons. Plus six assorted micro cakes between the two of us. The tea was made with loose tea leaves from a choice of varieties.
Comments – We had booked our Afternoon Tea ahead and were shown to a ready laid table on arrival. The Tea had already been made and was ready on the stands so it arrived very quickly after our arrival. The Tea was served on a pretty three-tiered spindle cake stand with glass plates. The scones , jam and cream came on a second pretty two-tiered spindle cake stand.
The tea arrived in a pretty china teapot along with a jug of milk and a tea strainer and stand.
The sandwiches were adequately filled and tasty. They were all on white bread.
The scones were of a good medium size and were fresh. They appeared to have been homemade. There was plenty of jam, curd and clotted cream. The blackcurrant curd was especially delicious.
The cakes all appeared to be shop bought. The micro cakes were a too small and were impossible to share. We just had to divide them up between us. The cupcakes were nice. They were all tasty and reasonably fresh.
The tea was made with loose leaves with a tea strainer provided. We asked for a refill which we got without a problem.
The service was reasonably attentive.
