Cost – £XX.XX (Nov 2016)
Background – First of all I have to admit that I didn’t write down the price we paid for our Afternoon Tea and I can’t find it on the internet. If I find it at a later date I will edit it in. I certainly don’t remember it being too expensive.
Another trip to Sheringham and this time we decided to try this interesting Tea Room for an Afternoon Tea. What a great find it turned out to be!
The Tea Room is on a corner on the main road through West Runton. It is attached to a bed and breakfast venue called The Corner House, which also looked very attractive. The two gentlemen who run both venues are both excellent cooks and make all of the food themselves. There was a display of delicious looking homemade cakes on a counter. There is also a good looking menu that we will have to investigate on our next journey to the coast!
The Tea Room also has an outside area that would be very pleasant on a warm summers day.
This is definitely a place to try!
Contents – Six finger sandwiches each (egg mayonnaise, ham and smoked salmon with cream cheese) served with slices of cucumber and tomato. One medium sized fruit scone, a small pot of strawberry jam and a small pot of clotted cream. A good-sized slice of your choice of several cakes on display plus three mini petit fours. The tea was made with loose tea leaves held in a large bag thing in the teapot.
Comments – We had booked our Afternoon Tea ahead so there was a table laid ready and reserved for us. The china was mismatched vintage pretty china.
The tea arrived first in a pretty china teapot. It was followed by the Tea on a three-tier spindle cake stand with pretty vintage plates.
The sandwiches were well filled and tasty. They were all on brown bread.
The scones were warm and fresh and were chock full of fruit. There was enough jam and barely enough clotted cream. The scones were some of the best we had tasted!
On this occasion, we had a good-sized slice of cake from a large choice which was on display on a counter. It was a difficult choice as they looked so good. We both chose a ginger cake with caramel frosting. It was delicious. The petit fours were tasty but very small.
The tea was of a good strength for us and we were offered a refill more than once. We had one refill.
The service was good and friendly from the two personable gentlemen who own the tea room and who make all of the cakes, etc..
