Cost – £15.00 (Nov 2015)

Background – Beechwood Hotel is an interesting and lovely hotel in North Walsham. It is well known for its wonderful food largely sourced from within a few miles of the hotel. The hotel currently holds two AA rosettes for its restaurant.

Beechwood 1

Contents – 4 finger sandwiches (ham, cheese and chutney, smoked salmon, cucumber and cream cheese) plus a mini crostini. 1 plain scone and a small bowl each of delicious strawberry jam and of clotted cream. A piece of lemon drizzle cake, a chocolate éclair, a macaroon, a piece of opera cake, a mini panna cotta and a mini caramel mousse. Tea was loose leaf contained in a cage in the teapots.

Comments – We were sat in the bar area in comfortable chairs with a low table between us.

We were first brought a stainless steel teapot, extra pot of hot water and a small jug of milk.

The Afternoon Tea arrived on a three tier, spindle type cake stand with round white plates. The jam and cream were on a separate plate.

The sandwiches were some on white bread and some on brown. They were fresh and tasty and generally well filled. The crostini was a tasty addition though very small.

The scones were of medium size and were fresh and well cooked. There was just enough strawberry jam and clotted cream.

Beechwood4

The cakes, mini desserts and scones were mixed on two layers of the cake stand. The cakes were all fresh and moist though I am not entirely sure they had all been made on the premises. The desserts were particularly tasty especially the panna cotta.

There was a limited choice of teas to choose from. The tea was a little on the strong side. There was plenty enough for two cups each. We were offered a refill.
